Arsenal completed an amazing comeback to win 3-1 against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus
Arsenal star Declan Rice scored a crucial goal to help Mikel Arteta's side win 3-1 against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners paid a club-record fee of £105million to sign the England international from West Ham this summer and he is already having a huge impact at the club.
The home crowd went wild as Rice's teammates mobbed him to celebrate what they thought was the winning goal. Gabriel Jesus came off the bench to secure all three points with a composed finish in the final seconds of the game - moving Arsenal within two points of Manchester City heading into the international break.
Rice spoke about the importance of beating United to close the gap to City after the win at the Emirates Stadium. Speaking to Sky Sports, the England international said: "If I am speaking honestly, Man City have won four out of four and if we didn’t win today, we are already five points behind them if we didn’t win.
"To catch up on them is a massive margin to make, we couldn’t afford to have that distance after four games so it was a must-win game, we said that before the game," he added. Rice was then asked about his goal to make it 2-1 as plenty of replays were played in front of Manchester United icon Roy Keane.
During his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Rice said: "Stop showing it, Roy (Keane) is sick of it!" Keane, smiling at Rice, responded: "It’s an own goal!"
After the win, Arsenal fans chanted "Rice, Rice, Baby!" with the 24-year-old clapping the home support and seemingly being overwhelmed. "It’s good to hear the fans," Rice said after the game.
"As a person, you feel a bit embarrassed hearing that being sung when you have just won a match. I appreciate all the love they have shown me so far, it’s been incredible."
