Roy Keane claims he could see the 'relief' in Daniel James' celebration vs Leeds

Roy Keane said Manchester United winger Daniel James ended a 'tough few months' after he scored against Leeds at Old Trafford.

The Welshman netted his first Premier League goal of the season as United ran out 6-2 victors against Marcelo Bielsa's side in an enthralling match on Sunday.

James had endured a rather tough time since joining manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's set up last summer, coming under heavy criticism and being made to wait for his opportunities.

However, former United captain Roy Keane claimed he could see the relief in his face as he scored against the club that tried to sign him in January 2019.

'He's had a tough time. A tough time since he's come to United,' Keane told Sky Sports.

'I think he started off his career at United very, very well. He's had a tough few months. Again, credit to Ole. He probably thought this will be his type of game - it's going to be open.

'I can always tell by a player's face when a ball goes in. Again he's running forward, he's nice and brave. Going to Man United was a big move for him.

'Look at his face [after scoring] and it a meant a lot to the kid. And I'm delighted for the kid. Listen, playing for Man United is not as easy as everyone thinks - there's lots of pressure. It was a big relief for him'

Solskjaer had plenty of praise for the 23-year-old following the emphatic victory at Old Trafford but did take aim at officials after he was awarded a yellow card for after a challenge by Liam Cooper.

'He's proven time and time again how he can improve our performances at times with his exceptional pace,' Solskjaer said.

'It's not that I'm too worried about it but it does do my head in when he gets a yellow card when he should have had a penalty, it's a foul, and he's almost been labelled as a diver before.'
