Roy Keane says Dele Alli should leave Tottenham and join Newcastle

Roy Keane believes Dele Alli needs to leave Tottenham to reignite his career and has suggested that Newcastle should be the club to sign him.

Alli was left out of Antonio Conte's squad for the 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old, who has featured just 10 times for Spurs in the Premier League this season, does not seem to be part of Conte's plans going forward - despite being in contract until 2024.

After Tottenham's defeat, Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane stated that Alli has lost his hunger at Tottenham.

He said: 'The kid's lost that eye of the tiger and sometimes you've got to let the kid go - that's the nature of football.

'You've done your time there, you've lost your way, be good to the kid - let the kid go.'

When co-pundit Jamie Redknapp asked Keane where Alli should go, the former Manchester United star responded: 'Newcastle. Let him go there the fans would love him.'

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink agreed with Keane that Alli should leave the club but believes a move overseas would be better for his career.

He said: 'I think he needs to go abroad, no one knows him, new start you know there's too much pressure at the moment. Go abroad.'

Keane added: 'He's got to look at himself. He's definitely lost that hunger.

'He's had a couple of contracts, you take your eye off the ball in this game and you get left behind.'

After exploding to life at Spurs, Alli has struggled in recent seasons under several different managers.

Redknapp said: 'It makes me sad to think about Dele Alli as five or six years ago he was the best young player in Europe I think. He was doing things out of this world.

'This goal (against Palace) was six years ago I think, it was genius. But something has happened to him.

'I don't get it, only Dele knows what's happened. We can't keep blaming managers, we can't keep blaming circumstances you've got to work it out for yourself.'

Spurs are reportedly open to letting the former England international go out on loan, after being an unused substitute in their last two fixtures, before not being involved for the clash with the Blues.

Alli has found the net twice this campaign in all competitions, but now it looks very unlikely that he will find a way back into favour at Spurs, and a change could be good for both parties.

Since being a regular in Gareth Southgate’s line-up as England progressed to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018, Alli has seen his performances drop.

He hasn’t featured for the Three Lions since June 2019, and has fallen out of favour under successive Spurs managers.
