Roy Keane's craziest quotes from 2020: I'd have punched De Gea!

The end of the calendar year is always a time to reflect on the 12 months just passed.

In 2020, one of the standout characters was former Ireland international Roy Keane, who has made a reputation for himself in his post-playing days as being a pundit who isn't shy of sharing his most ruthless thoughts.

"Lampard is doing everything right."

Back in January, Keane came out in defence of former teammate and current Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a defeat against Liverpool.

"I saw Chelsea," Keane said. "They're a decent team but couldn't get the job done. Frank Lampard has lost eight games but, for whatever reason, Frank is doing everything right."

"Oh Jesus... really?"

On February 17, after United's 2-0 win over Chelsea, Keane and Jamie Carragher debated the quality of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool compared to Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United sides.

When Carragher opted to include Sadio Mane in a combined XI over Ryan Giggs, Keane was offended, shocked, and replied with a cutting "Oh Jesus... really?"

"I would kill him! You would kill him!

David de Gea angers Keane more than most. After a draw against Everton on March 1, in which the Spaniard slipped up, Keane didn't hold back.

"I would kill him," he said. "You would kill him! I'd have lynched him at half time. He wouldn't be able to continue."

"I'm sick of this goalkeeper, I'd be hitting him at half time"

On June 19, the Cork native was at it again after a mixup between De Gea and Harry Maguire.

"I'm in awe of Maguire," Keane said, shocked. "I'm amazed how an international player can do that. I'm sick of this goalkeeper. I'd be throwing punches at half time."

"It's in their DNA, they'll always disappoint you"

On July 9, it was Tottenham's turn after a draw against Bournemouth.

"We've seen it regularly over the years," Keane said about Spurs. "It's in Tottenham's DNA, they will always disappoint you."

"They beat United and are the new Bayern Munich"

Keane was quick to calm the hype surrounding Arsenal after a win at Old Trafford on November 1.

"How many games have Arsenal lost this season?" Keane questioned. "I know why they lose. They've beaten Manchester United and they're called the next Bayern Munich. Please."

"He's a car crash"

Just a week later, he turned his aim towards Kyle Walker after conceding a penalty against Liverpool.

"He's facing an idiot," Keane said. "Kyle Walker - people keep telling me he's playing well, but I don't think so. The guy's 30 years old, an international player, and he's a car crash who keeps making these kinds of mistakes."

"He's lazy and careless"

Passing up an opportunity to go in on De Gea, Keane's anger was aimed at Fred after a 3-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

"I'd be more critical of Fred," he said. "I'd be disappointed with my goalkeeper, but more disappointed with Fred for being lazy and careless."

"Just go into the tunnel! I don't get it"

And the list ends with one of his angriest moments, when he was unhappy with players exchanging pleasantries after the Manchester derby.

"At the end of the game, they're hugging and smiling," Keane said. "Just go into the tunnel! I don't get it. Everyone just wants to be friends. You're playing for these clubs to win matches, not to be everyone's mate."
