Amorim wants to be Man Utd boss for 20 YEARS as he makes title promise

Ruben Amorim is set to take charge of his first full Manchester United season over the coming campaign and the Portuguese coach already has some big plans for his stint with the Red Devils

Ruben Amorim has vowed to make Manchester United Premier League champions again and is aiming to stay at the club for 20 years. Amorim took over midway through last season and struggled as United ended the campaign in disarray in 15th place – their lowest Premier League finish.

But the 40-year-old Portuguese head coach has set about changing the culture of the squad and is convinced he can take United back to the top.

Amorim has two years left on his contract, with the option of an extra year, but said he wants to manage United long-term – just like Sir Alex Ferguson, who spent 26 years in charge at Old Trafford.

“I want to stay,” said Amorim. “I want to stay for 20 [years]. That's my goal and I truly believe in that. Something will happen. It always does.

“In some moments I will be lucky. I had a lot of luck during my career as a manager and my idea is to stay for many years. But again, we know that the results will dictate that. I know that last season I used up all the credit I had but I'm ready to start afresh.

“At Sporting it was the same thing. They said that in three months I'm out. They said that I had a three percent chance of winning the title with Sporting.

“I know that the pressure is different. But I don't like to change clubs. I like to bond with people and carry on. So I was there five years and in the last years I was waiting for the right club. I know it sounds crazy but I chose this club, I had the feeling and I just want to bond, to be a part of it and I will stay here.”

Asked why he was so sure he can make United great again, Amorim said: “I have no doubts, because there are some things that you cannot buy and that this club has. The pedigree, the history, the fans. We have that.

“I think that is clear. Then the money. We have money. We have money without the Champions League. So we have money and we'll have more money in the future. We're doing everything.

“You talk with Omar [Berrada, chief executive] and all these guys, they are making all the strategy to have more money in the future. So that will not be a problem.

“Then I think it's clearly the culture. If we have a different culture, with all of that, with all of the pedigree, the money, all of these things, we can return to our place - that is clear.”
