Rudiger slams Everton forward Bernard for diving and HEADBUTTING him

Antonio Rudiger has accused Everton forward Bernard of diving and claimed the Brazilian should have been sent off for butting him.

The pair were involved in an angry clash during the first half of Sunday's ill-tempered draw at Stamford Bridge.

Referee Kevin Friend showed both players a yellow card but Chelsea defender Rudiger fumed: 'If in England we have VAR then I think Bernard has a problem.

'He was diving and I told him to stand up, and then I was standing and he came with a lot of speed and hit me with his forehead, and I get a yellow card. To me that's a joke.

'The referee didn't see nothing. It was like the fourth official maybe he said something to him, that maybe I provoked him or something. I just said: Stand up.

'I don't even tackle someone or do something and I get booked - for being head butted. Sorry, but that is a joke. Or course that is annoying. But I have to accept it.

'Maybe it would have changed the game and maybe not. But I know one thing for sure, if we had VAR, he is off.'

The flashpoint occurred just before half time when Willian made a clean challenge to dispossess Bernard and left him rolling around on the floor as the game continued.

When Rudiger leaned over and accused him of over-reacting, Bernard sprang to his feet in confrontation and thrust his head towards the Germany international.

It was one of several clashes in a tetchy game. Jorginho was fortunate not to be sent off for a nasty tackle on Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Chelsea dominated the second half and were frustrated to lose ground on Premier League pace-setters Manchester City and Liverpool.

'We are still unbeaten and everything is nice but to me it feels like we have dropped points,' said Rudiger. 'It seems like a loss. If you want to do something important you have to win these kind of games.

'It's like last season, we dropped a lot of points, and at the end we were thinking: 'if only'. But that does not count.

'We failed and now we have the international break and after that Spurs.'

Tottenham can overtake Chelsea if they win the London derby at Wembley when the Premier League returns after the international break.

'We want three points and we will go for it,' said Rudiger. 'For Chelsea fans that is important and that's also good for me as well, but I see it as a professional, and I want to go there and win.'
