SPORT: Cristian Romero willing to take pay cut for Barcelona registration

According to Sport, Cristian Romero still considers a move to Barcelona as his top priority, and the player is willing to take a pay cut so that Barcelona can complete his registration.

It is reported that the Argentine center-back has not yet finalized an agreement to join Inter Milan because he is waiting for Barcelona's final move. Romero's team has been in contact with Barcelona's sporting management in recent weeks and firmly believes that there may be changes in Barcelona's defense in the final stages of this transfer window. Barcelona has included Romero on their transfer list but has also warned him that the club will only pursue the deal if an existing center-back or full-back leaves.

Last weekend, Inter Milan met with Romero's agent and offered a 4-year contract. The salary was slightly lower than his current earnings at Tottenham Hotspur, but the contract length was longer. Romero subsequently put the deal on hold, and the two sides also failed to agree on a transfer fee, as Tottenham Hotspur was asking for 50 million euros at the time but was still willing to negotiate. Tottenham Hotspur is willing to let the Argentine international go and has even started to seriously consider letting him leave on a loan-to-buy basis if the player continues to push for a departure.

With the situation uncertain, Inter Milan did not wait and has now reached an agreement with Stones. This is a clear warning to Romero because Inter Milan will now only sign him if they successfully offload Pavard. Everything has stalled because Romero has made it clear that he is willing to wait for Barcelona, and Deco has shown interest in bringing him in.

Internally, Barcelona is now also open to exploring other options. There are currently two paths: either directly sign a high-level center-back if a center-back or full-back leaves, with Araujo or Kounde being the most likely candidates to leave; or turn to signing a promising player, preferably a left-footed one.

Salinas is still on the list, but Barcelona will not pay the 16 million euro transfer fee demanded by Racing Santander. Other names are now also being evaluated in case immediate action is required. If someone does leave, Romero or Laporte will be prioritized, and the club will then make a final decision.

What is certain is that Romero is willing to take a pay cut to help Barcelona complete his registration. He will facilitate the move, and the timing may also be more favorable for Barcelona, as Tottenham Hotspur needs to reduce their squad burden, and the Argentine must report after August 10.
