Sacchi's on Donnarumma's move to PSG: He made a mistake in choosing money

Arrigo Sacchi believes Gianluigi Donnarumma made a mistake by leaving AC Millan for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, after the goalkeeper was at fault for the first of three Karim Benzema goals which saw the French giants exit the Champions League.

With Italy's crucial World Cup play-off against North Macedonia taking place on March 24, former Italy goalkeepers Dino Zoff and Gianluigi Buffon have defended Donnarumma, but Sacchi has made his views clear.

"He made a mistake in choosing money," Sacchi told the Corriere della Sera. "I also told his father and mother last summer here in Milano.

"I had to stay at Milan, not so much for gratitude, but because it was the ideal place to grow. Never leave the places where you feel good. But he remains a great champion, I have known him since he was little more than a child, in the national youth teams."

Mihajlovic agrees with Sacchi

Former Serie A star, and current Bologna coach, Sinisa Mihajlovic defended Donnarumma for his mistake against Real Madrid, but revealed he also advised the 23-year-old not to leave Millan.

"Did Benzema foul him [Donnarumma]?" questioned Mihajlovic. "I don't know, it's one of those situations that's in the grey area, that have to be interpreted by the referee.

"You all are too harsh on Donnarumma, both the French and the Italians. You make him pay for everything.

"He didn't make the right choice, I also spoke to him and advised him to stay, but he chose this way. If it hadn't been for Donnarumma, Italy would not have won the European Championship."
