Salah has tests for concussion & faces wait to see whether he can play Barcelona

Mohamed Salah underwent tests on Sunday to determine whether he suffered concussion following a sickening collision that left him 'unresponsive'.

The Liverpool forward was taken off on a stretcher during his side's 3-2 win at Newcastle after goalkeeper Martin Dubravka collided with him in the 67th minute. Salah required extensive treatment on the pitch but was able to watch the remainder of the game in the dressing room.

According to Dubravka, Salah may have been 'out for five or six seconds' and didn't answer when Newcastle defender Fabian Schar checked to see if he was okay.

If Salah has suffered concussion, he will miss the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona on Tuesday and will not be able to train until next Saturday, the day before Liverpool play what could be a titanic final league game at home to Wolves.

Liverpool flew back from Tyneside late on Saturday night. Salah, who was in tears as he was taken off, looked pale and dazed when he left St James's Park to board the team coach to take them to Newcastle airport but he was fine on the flight and spent the night at home.

He joined the squad at their Melwood training ground on Sunday for a regular warm down session but Salah, who leads the race for the Golden Boot by two goals, saw the club's medical team, which is headed by Dr Andy Massey.

Salah's importance to Liverpool is huge but his health is the priority and there is little doubt they will do what is best for him.

Dubravka was rattled by the incident and explained what happened. 'I don't know if he was out for five or six seconds. Fabian asked him if he was all right and he didn't answer him, so in that moment we were a little bit scared if he was OK,' said Dubravka. 'But after one minute, he responded.

'I felt sorry for him but I was just focused on the ball. Sometimes you can't watch everything. I didn't hit him with my hand, I didn't punch him. It might have been my hip. I wasn't sure if it was me or someone else. But I went to him to say sorry. I wasn't trying to injure him. I'm not that kind of guy.'

If Salah does miss the game with Barcelona, Liverpool's hopes of overhauling a 3-0 deficit will be further diminished. They are already without striker Roberto Firmino, whose season has been ended with an adductor problem.
