Emiliano Sala's family may not receive up to £600,000 in compensation for his death because of an administrative error by Cardiff City.
Sala was killed when the private plane bringing him to Cardiff crashed into the English Channel on January 21, just two days after his record £15million move to the Premier League club.
However, the Argentine's family may miss out on the compensation fee because the Bluebirds made an error when registering his contract with the Premier League.
According to The Times, Premier League officials were forced to send some documents back to Cardiff because information needed to be corrected. Sala also needed to sign the forms again.
However, before he could, the 28-year-old died when the aircraft carrying him and Lincolnshire pilot David Ibbotson crashed. Ibbotson remains missing, presumed dead.
Players are automatically enrolled onto the Professional Footballers’ Association’s pension scheme when they are registered with the Premier League, and that includes a £600,000 fee to relatives for death-in-service.
