According to The Athletic, Saliba's back injury does not require surgery, but the French center-back is expected to be out for a long period. Due to his injury, Arsenal are looking for a center-back in the summer transfer market, and Stones and Ngoyo are both targets.

The 25-year-old Saliba started in France's 0-2 loss to Spain in the World Cup semi-finals, but was substituted due to injury around the 30-minute mark. He started in all but one of France's other matches in this World Cup. Saliba fell to the ground in what seemed like a non-serious incident, then kicked the ball out of bounds and signaled for medical staff to come on for treatment. Partially due to Saliba's injury, Arsenal are looking for a center-back in the summer transfer market.

English defender Stones, who left Manchester City last month after his contract expired, is one of Arsenal's transfer targets. As "Transfer Deal Sheet" previously reported, Aston Villa defender Ngoyo is also being eyed by Arsenal, although there is still a significant gap between Arsenal's and Villa's valuations of the player.

Stones, 32, has ended his decade-long stint at Manchester City. He joined Manchester City the same summer as Arsenal manager Arteta, and worked with Arteta for three years when Arteta was an assistant coach at Manchester City. Stones made 5 appearances for England in the 2026 World Cup, starting 3 of them.
