Leroy Sane returned to Manchester City for the first time since undergoing knee surgery as he reunited with his teammates for Vincent Kompany's testimonial.

Kompany's City career was celebrated in a star-studded night at the Etihad with a host of former teammates taking on a Premier League All-Star XI.

Understandably, given City face Norwich at the weekend, most of Pep Guardiola's first team were not involved, with only David Silva and Sergio Aguero playing a small part at the start of the night.

But the squad who won the Premier League in dramatic fashion last season - thanks in no small part to Kompany's goal against Leicester - were still present to show their support to an inspirational figure in the dressing room.

Kyle Walker took to Instagram to send a classy message to Kompany, writing: "Just like you never left Kompany. Love a story and a speech! The word LEGEND flies around way too much, but for me, playing with and against you, I can say you're a true legend mate! On and off the pitch!!"

He accompanied the post with a picture of Kompany chatting in the tunnel to himself, Benjamin Mendy, Kevin de Bruyne, John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan, Philippe Sandler and former City man Fabian Delph.

Also in the group was Sane, who was on crutches as he laughed along with his team-mates.

Sane has been undergoing his rehabilitation in Germany following surgery, with reports in German media suggesting he is able to move his knee at a 90 degree angle.
