Savic: Juventus are more than just Ronaldo

Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic is hopeful of a return to winning ways when they face Juventus in their Champions League opener on Wednesday.

Los Rojiblancos suffered their first defeat of the season against Real Sociedad on the weekend and Savic feels that there is disproportionate attention given to defeats as opposed to victories for his side.

"We don't pay too much attention to what they say about us," Savic told Radio MARCA.

"When we win, we are amazing. When we lose, we are the opposite," the Montenegrin said.

"We just focus on ourselves."

Against Juventus, Atletico face a familiar foe in Cristiano Ronaldo, who has an excellent record against his former rivals and netted a hat-trick against them to eliminate Diego Simeone's side from the Champions League.

"Juventus are more than just Cristiano," he said.

"They have great champions in their team.

"[Ronaldo] is one of the most important in history and we will be attentive," he added.

On that 3-2 aggregate elimination in the Champions League Round of 16, Savic admits it was a tough one to get over.

"I arrived here [at Atletico] in 2015 and it was the worst game I remember.

"That elimination hurt us a lot."
