Scholes identifies 6 transfers Liverpool need and makes Trent Arnold prediction

Paul Schoes has pinpointed six potential transfers Liverpool may have to make if they want to build on their Premier League success with Trent Alexander-Arnold potentially a big name departure

Paul Scholes has highlighted six potential areas of concern for Liverpool - which includes a back-up goalkeeper and a new left-back. The Reds have just been crowned Premier League champions but attention has turned to how they can go again.

Arne Slot's side have barely been challenged en route to winning the title. They've remained consistent whilst all others have fallen away but recruitment will now be key in them retaining their crown. Slot chose to work with the squad he inherited back in the summer, but is now expected to be far more active in the market.

Mohamed Salah has excelled in the final third but there remains a reliance on the Egyptian to come up with the goods. Scholes believes at least two new faces may be required to bolster and add depth to Liverpool's attack.

Caoimhin Kelleher has served as a stunning deputy to Alisson but the Brazilian is the clear No.1 at Anfield and the Irishman is at the stage where he could command a start at several other clubs. Should he leave a sizeable void would need filling, albeit Georgian Giorgi Mamardashvili is about to move to the club.

Scholes has also tipped Liverpool to pursue more bodies in midfield and add a new face at left-back, even though Andy Robertson has been a regular in that position for years.

He told TNT Sports: "I think they need to improve defensively. Obviously if Trent goes, they might need cover for Conor Bradley. As good as Conor has done over the years, he does tend to pick injuries up. They also might have an issue with the No. 2 goalkeeper if Caoimhin Kelleher leaves as well. I think they need a left-back and although I think Andy Robertson has been brilliant for Liverpool, there were times this year where you thought that could be a weakness.

"I think Slot would want a holding midfield player. I know Ryan Gravenberch has been very good but if he got injured, they’ll need some major back-up in there. Also, I don’t think Federico Chiesa will be there next year so I think they might need at least two players up top although I do think they’ve got the best forwards in the league anyway."

The only major exit from Liverpool this summer, should he depart, will be Alexander-Arnold when his contract expires. The right-back has remained quiet regarding his future and whilst he has an emotional connection to the Reds Scholes admits he will go where he can win on a regular basis.

Despite Liverpool claiming the title, the pundit concedes he would "probably slightly favour Real Madrid " given their history of constant success. The Reds meanwhile will have to deal with huge competition if they want to go on and dominate, which has proved difficult.
