Scholes names the manager he’d love to see replace Erik ten Hag at Man United

Manchester United are officially looking or a new manager.

There had been weeks of speculation about Erik ten Hag's future, and now, the Red Devils have finally pulled the trigger and sacked the Dutchman.

Ten Hag leaves United 14th in the Premier League after a terrible start to the season.

Now, the search for a successor is on, and, by the sounds of it, Ruben Amorim could be the next Manchester United manager.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Paul Scholes has shared his verdict on who should replace Ten Hag, and he's advocated a move for Zinedine Zidane.

Scholes stated that he wants to see the three-time Champions League winning gaffer come to Old Trafford.

Scholes says that Zidane is one of the only gaffers who has been at a major club and has won major honours, and that he is a best in class appointment.

“They should have the very best in class. The list there, Zidane's the one out of that list for me who has been at a major club and has won major honours. Look, I'm not sure how well educated he is with the England language, or if he really wants to come, you never get that feeling.”

Why Zidane may not come to Manchester United

Zidane to United does look like a very good idea on paper.

The Frenchman was wildly successful at Real Madrid, and even Eden Hazard said Zidane would be a great fit at United.

However, there may be a problem here.

Indeed, as Scholes says, Zidane doesn't speak English, and that may stop him from taking this job.

Emmanuel Petit has previously claimed that Zidane's lack of English will stop him coming to the Premier League.

“Zidane, he won't come. Definitely. Do you know why? Because he doesn't speak English,” Petit said when Zidane was linked with the Tottenham and Chelsea jobs.

“That's the truth because I have known Zidane for ages and the way he manages players, he's very close, he always talks to his players.

“So he wants the communication being a priority. Very important for him, he doesn't want someone to translate everything he has to say publicly.”

United may have to look elsewhere for their next manager, and after such a dreadful start to this season, they absolutely need to make sure they get this appointment right.
