Algeria booked their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 with a dour 1-0 win over Senegal on Thursday.
It was a match billed as a blockbuster between two of the best sides in African football but Youcef Belaili's second-half goal was the only moment of genuine quality in Cairo.
Even with Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane on the pitch, the forgettable Group C encounter was littered with an incredible 53 fouls and devoid of goalmouth action.

very physical game! I thought Senegal was gonna win from the way the first half panned out but Algeria adapted to the physicality and took their chance! that game was a real battle. if African teams can add more technical approach alongside this physicality the worldcup can come to Africa for once.

Hell would have broken loose if the clear penalty Senegal had and ignored by the substandard Zambian referee had been the other way round. These Nirth Africans sometimes behave like animals when playing soccer. Just watch how they were on the referee for every foul they committed and was whistled for.

Its no surprise tbh. Senegal have excellent footballers but having good players doesnt mean having a team. Liverpool on paper is nowhere near the level of Barca yet they won against them. Also Countries like Algeria, Morocco etc. are all countries where the players value technique above all else so in that respects they are the most technical of Afcon competitors and I promise you that's fact....
