Shearer blasts Salah over 'embarrassing' dive in Liverpool's dramatic win

Alan Shearer says Crystal Palace's players had every right to be angry with Liverpool's Mo Salah over what he described as an "embarrassing" dive in the dramatic clash at Anfield.

The Egyptian scored twice in the 4-3 win for Liverpool and earned praise from Shearer for his "clever finish" for his first goal, as he became the fourth fastest player to score 50 Premier League goals, behind Andrew Cole, Shearer and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

But while Shearer was full of praise for the Liverpool star for that, he was critical of the way that he went to ground under a challenge from Palace defender Mamadou Sakho in the first half of the game.

"We have to mention this," Shearer said, speaking on BBC programme Match of the Day.

"I think he got away with one against Newcastle, but that is a dive.

"He feels a bit of contact and then realises it a second or too later, and then goes down, and it is a dive.

"Pretty embarrassing really and not good at all to see that.

"You can see the Palace players are going absolutely berserk and rightly so. They accuse him of diving and they are right."

That was not the only moment of controversy in an action-packed game, with Liverpool having a penalty appeal turned down in the first half, while Palace were left aggrieved at a perceived handball in the build-up to Liverpool's third goal.
