Alan Shearer has questioned the attitude of Manchester United's players in the wake of their 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United.
Anthony Gordon got the game's only goal in the 55th minute, with the hosts holding on for the vital win over Erik ten Hag's Man United despite losing goalkeeper Nick Pope to injury.
Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day, Shearer said that the Red Devils had no 'characters' to lead their team through tough times, as well as questioning attitudes among ten Hag's camp.
Shearer said: 'They [Newcastle] absolutely battered Man United in wide areas. [Kieran] Trippier and [Tino] Livramento were sensational against [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka and [Diogo] Dalot.
'In their defence, they got no help whatsoever from [Alejandro] Garnacho and [Marcus] Rashford.
'Rashford didn't look at it at all - didn't look interested. It happened so many times. Newcastle created so many chances and they should have had many goals.
'For me, there are too many bad eggs in that Man United team. Too many bad attitudes.
'It's alright when things are going well for you, you can get your feet on the ball, play and pick your head up when things are nice and rosy.
'When it's not going for you, when you're a bit tired and you've got to roll your sleeves up, there's not enough characters in that team.'
Manchester United's attitude issues spread to all areas of the park, with ten Hag fuming at Anthony Martial for failing to track back, before hauling the striker off.
On TNT Sports, Jermaine Jenas suggested that some of the players were using their body language to send a message to the Dutchman.
'I personally thought tonight there were signs that there were a couple of players in there for me that either wasn't happy with the tactics that was put to them or wasn't happy with their positions on the pitch,' the TNT Sports pundit said.
'The body language of a team tells you a lot at times and there were a few of them that were sending a message to the manager.'
Manchester United's next outing is a home fixture against Chelsea on Wednesday night, the first of three consecutive games at Old Trafford, culminating in a critical Champions League game against Bayern Munich.

Hw did the coach set the team to suffer? How did they know the plan will not work when they didn’t even try it. When the wingers don’t track back and are just throwing their arms, how will any tactics work. If this players come to Liverpool, do you think Klopp will be looking at Garnacho Martial n Rashford not track back n be okay to field them again? Or do you think they will try it at city?
you spoke with sense bro not those some of man utd fans who wanted de coach to follow de tactics of players

Responding to your second sentence.. Must a good coach wait till 90 minutes is over before re-strategizing? Wingers ain’t tracking back, was the score line not 1:0? How about ask the question of clean chances created? How many touches in opposition box? How many goal attempts? How many passes or touches were pulled together in a flow? And to the City and Liverpool claim, would Pep or Klopp set up their teams to keep low block for 90 minutes?
The simple truth that you fail to realise is no coach will succeed with the attitude of most Utd top players. Pep, Klopp,Ancelott etc give them man Utd and they will crumble unless they flush out these players n get the ones that believe in their system. The only fault ETH have that I see is that even the players he has bought has not performed well for him.

I am still wondering how the team is not getting with Ten hag in charge for almost a season and half the team is playing so bad like that, why would you train these players week in, week out and end up giving you such a a performance

Manager is good and has a very strong desire to win, many times he had defended and cover up for his players mistakes! Too bad players do not have his personality and character to play in every game. Time for Ten Hag to stop being a nice guy, fired up and get rid of players especially those bad eggs!

Why would a coach like a Manchester United coach set his team up to suffer and expect them to run around, when they saw early on that their coach’s tactics would not work? ETH saw this too, first hand, and he wouldn’t even call his player or captain to the touch line to share strategy. Newcastle United is no Everton
