Alan Shearer has publicly criticized Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and defender Lisandro Martinez, arguing that the two players publicly attacked the club's hierarchy and embattled manager Carrick during another turbulent season without fully taking responsibility for their own performances.
Manchester United are experiencing their worst start to a season in 40 years. The team has secured only two wins in their first 11 games across all competitions, suffering five defeats.
The poor results have also sparked intense behind-the-scenes turmoil. Last week, Lisandro Martinez publicly criticized Manchester United's hierarchy on camera, lamenting the club's insufficient investment in the summer transfer window, and was subsequently fined by the club. On Wednesday, after Manchester United suffered a 4-1 away defeat to Como, captain Bruno Fernandes publicly criticized Carrick's tactical decisions.
Shearer, 56, does not agree with their actions. He believes Fernandes, Martinez, and their teammates should all be held accountable for the team's dismal performance. The Newcastle United legend particularly criticized Manchester United players for their lack of running, effort, and commitment against Como.
Speaking to Betfair, Shearer said: "Looking back at what happened over the past week, Martinez came out and said those things, and then Bruno Fernandes made those comments after the game. Guys, can you please do your job first? Because in last night's game, I didn't see much effort from Bruno, nor much commitment, nor much running from him."
"Wherever you go, players at any club have a voice. That's how football is nowadays, whether you like it or not. But at the same time, you also have to take responsibility for yourself. Bruno Fernandes is the Manchester United captain. You can't come out and criticize your manager like that, undermining the manager and coaching staff, especially when your own performance as a player has been so poor and your form throughout the season has been so poor."
Shearer then pointed out that Fernandes was voted Player of the Year last season but has not demonstrated the same level of performance this season.
"He was Player of the Year last season, but this season, we haven't seen those performances from Bruno Fernandes. So he can certainly come out and criticize the manager, but why hasn't he played well this season? The same goes for Lisandro Martinez. When your captain comes out and criticizes the manager, it only puts more pressure on the club. A captain shouldn't do that, especially after a performance and result like that. If Bruno had come out and said: 'As a team, we were hopeless. As captain, I take responsibility for that.' That would be much better than blaming all the problems on the manager, especially considering how poor his own performance as a player has been. I mean, the manager took him off, and he was probably very unhappy about that."

i want you believe you people are happy with what is happening to Manchester United. How can you tell a player to keep running when the set-up is not alright? Bruno said the right thing let the worst happen.
