Simeone: Valverde's foul on Morata was most decisive moment of Supercopa

Diego Simeone has admitted that Fede Valverde's foul on Alvaro Morata was the decisive moment of the Supercopa de Espana final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguayan midfielder brought down Morata as he was in on goal in extra time and was sent off before Los Blancos prevailed in the penalty shootout.

"It was the most important moment of the game," Simeone said about the incident.

"I told him that anyone would've done the same thing in his place.

"I think giving Valverde man of the match makes all the sense in the world because Valverde won the match with this action."

The final was a tense affair in which both Real Madrid and Atletico had chances, and Simeone gave his thoughts on the game as a whole.

"We started quite well in the first 20 to 25 minutes," he said.

"Real Madrid improved in the final 15 minutes of the first half.

"In the second half, the situation was changing hands.

"They had chances, but we were always well positioned with various good attacks on their goal.

"The most important moment was Valverde, who took a fair decision for his team and he prevented us from having a goalscoring situation that could have decided the game."
