AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer has claimed that his team knew exactly how Tottenham were going to play in their Champions League clash.
Milan secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the last-16 tie, with Brahim Diaz scoring after seven minutes.
Kjaer revealed that the plan for Milan was to block off Tottenham star Harry Kane and press the players around him.
Simon Kjaer told Sky Sport Italia and Mediaset: 'Kane was the first problem to face on every Tottenham move. It was important to block him off and then press the others. We were ready for a lot of their moves and did what we prepared in training. We knew exactly what they were going to do.'
The approach certainly had the desired effect as Milan prevented Kane from scoring and ended up winning the first leg.
Meanwhile, midfielder Sandro Tonali praised the intensity with which Milan played.
However, the 22-year-old admitted that Milan could have added to their lead late on.
Tonali said: 'This was the intensity and the level I expected us to play at. There might be errors, but the intensity and our values needed to be put onto the pitch. We all gave 100 per cent and we're happy, even if we could've done more late on. Winning in the Champions League is always a boost.'
Tonali also revealed that he is fine following Cristian Romero's challenge on him early in the second half.
He said: 'The ankle was already strapped even before the foul, but I am fine, I'm used to getting knocks.'
Milan have lacked consistency in Serie A this season, as demonstrated by the fact that they are in fifth place in the table.
However, they are hopeful of making it to the last eight in Europe's elite club competition.
