Milan Skriniar admitted that defeat in the Champions League final is a disappointing way to bring an end to his Inter Milan career.
The Slovakian centre back is set to join Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract at the San Siro, having agreed terms with the French club in January.
He had spent six years at the Nerazzurri, but his stay ended in bitter defeat, after Rodri's second-half strike consigned the Italian side to a 1-0 loss in Istanbul on Saturday.
Skriniar was left on the bench after not being fully-fit having struggled with injuries throughout the season.
And the 28-year-old admitted that losing the showpiece final of Europe's premier club competition will likely have a lasting impact on his team-mates.
'It was a sad way to say goodbye, the defeat will disturb us for a long time,' the Slovakian international said.
'We were so close to winning the trophy, we had a great performance and deserved more.
'We're proud of what we did during the game. We'll see what happens in Paris, the important thing is that I stay fit.'
Skriniar was the subject of a number of offers last season, although they were rejected by Inter, perhaps confident they could convince their player to sign an extension.
However, with no agreement between the player and the club, their star centre back is set to leave without bringing any financial return.
PSG will be keen to assess the player's fitness this summer, after a difficult campaign punctuated by back problems.
Skriniar missed 22 games in total between February and May, and was forced to undergo surgery to attempt to fix the lower back issues that have plagued him.
Inter beat Portuguese side Porto in the last-16 of the Champions League, but the player has admitted that he was more or less playing the game 'on one leg' as a result of his injury, such was the extent of the issue.
'In the second leg of the Porto tie, I was playing on one leg, it was impossible to do more. I would've risked a really serious injury,' admitted the 28-year-old.
'I'd never been out of action for this long and tried to get back to full fitness in training, but it's not the same as match fitness. I've been training with Inter for the last three weeks, so I am ready and determined.'
He will find at PSG a club in transition, with Christophe Galtier having been sacked as manager, according to reports.
Kylian Mbappe also looks set to follow Lionel Messi out the door, after claiming he would not be signing a new deal at the club, with Neymar's future also uncertain.
