According to the latest reports from Sky Sports and The Athletic, Man United are preparing to hold talks with Carrick about whether he will continue as head coach after this season.

It is reported that formal negotiations are expected to begin before Man United's away game against Brighton on May 24. Man United's hierarchy has not completely ruled out the possibility of someone else coaching next season, and they have also approached other potential candidates, but the club's hierarchy has decided to talk with Carrick first.

Carrick has been coaching the team for some time, and his superiors are impressed by his popularity with the players, his ability to deal with the media, his deep understanding of the club's history and scale, and crucially, his achievements on the pitch.

In 15 games as Man United's coach, he has achieved a record of 10 wins and 3 draws, and has secured qualification for next season's Champions League, which could bring a £100 million revenue increase to the club. So, he has not only done everything asked of him, but has done even more.

In this situation, it is hard to imagine Man United giving the job to someone else. Nevertheless, Man United are determined to conduct a rigorous recruitment process rather than rushing into an appointment. Although there has been ongoing dialogue between Carrick and his superiors, formal negotiations regarding any contract terms have not yet begun.

According to The Athletic, club CEO Omar Berrada and Football Director Wilcox believe Carrick is the right person to lead Man United next season, and they are prepared to propose this to Sir Ratcliffe.
