Slot: Liverpool have the fight to overcome 'ridiculous' and 'unbelievable' form

Arne Slot labelled Liverpool's recent form as "ridiculous" and "unbelievable" but insisted his side have not lost their fight as they return to Champions League action.

In the Premier League, Liverpool have lost six of their last seven matches (W1), with their 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday seeing them drop into the bottom half of the table.

Across all competitions, the Reds have lost eight of their last 11 matches, though two of their three victories during that run have come in the Champions League against Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Madrid.

Despite their topsy-turvy run this season, Slot is confident his side have what it takes to turn their form around sooner rather than later.

"I would describe it as ridiculous, almost. Something I did not expect to be in," he said of their current form. 

"Not at any club I was going to work at, let alone Liverpool. That is unbelievable.

"I have said many times, you will never find enough excuses for us to perform like this. It's unexpected for the club, for me, for everyone.

"I take the responsibility and feel guilty for it.

"But this is maybe the best club to face it. The harder it gets at this club, the more we are together.

"Every day, you have to prove yourself at this level. You can't say I won a league or anything like that.

"You have to win the next game for me and the players. That's the environment I like to work in. I don't know if I need to prove myself to the fans as well as I have to prove myself to myself."

Liverpool won five of their first six meetings with PSV in European competition (D1) but were beaten 3-2 in Eindhoven in last season's league phase, their sole defeat in that stage last term.

However, the Reds have won each of their last 13 Champions League home games in the group/league phase, beating Madrid 1-0 on MD4 to set the outright longest such run by a Premier League side.

Liverpool are currently eighth in the Champions League table, occupying the final automatic qualification spot, while PSV are 18th, having won just once in their four games so far.

But while PSV have struggled in UEFA's premier competition, they top the Eredivisie, losing just once in the league this season, and are unbeaten in their last 11 matches in all competitions.

"I wouldn't say it's a good opponent to have right now," Slot said of PSV.

"They had a difficult spell last season and the start of this season, but in the last two or three months, they are a winning machine.

"They are doing really well, being six points clear. That shows how well they are doing. The fixture list is the fixture list."
