Sofyan Amrabat's brother reveals Man United wanted to loan Morocco midfielder

Sofyan Amrabat's brother has revealed that Manchester United attempted to sign the midfielder on loan with an option to buy in the closing stages of the January transfer window.

Amrabat received a lot of praise for his performances at the World Cup, where he helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

That led to there being much interest in Fiorentina star Amrabat, with his brother Nordin disclosing that three teams tried to strike a deal in late January.

United were one of the teams that made an approach, but Fiorentina rejected the offer.

Nordin Amrabat told Voetbal Primeur: 'I can name three clubs who were concrete in the last two or three days of the transfer window.

'Manchester United wanted a loan with an option to buy deal, Fiorentina rejected.'

United were unable to secure a deal for Amrabat and brought in Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich late in the window.

Barcelona were also interested in signing Amrabat on the last day of the transfer window.

Amrabat has just over a year remaining on his contract at Fiorentina and it seems likely that plenty of teams will be interested in signing him when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

The 26-year-old was excellent at the World Cup and especially excelled in Morocco's round of 16 clash against Spain.

He has been at Fiorentina since 2020 and previously had spells at Utrecht, Feyenoord and Club Brugge before being loaned out to Hellas Verona by the Belgian club.

Amrabat's brother Nordin currently plays for AEK Athens and previously had a spell in English football with Watford.
