Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'has appointed a personal scout to take care of the club's transfer targets.'
The Norwegian has asked Simon Wells from the club's recruitment team to closely assess players who could strengthen his under-achieving squad.
According to The Sun, the move comes with the blessing of the United hierarchy as they continue their search for a director of football.
Solskjaer is in the midst of what is likely to be an extensive overhaul of United's squad as they try and climb back to the pinnacle of English and European football.
The pair know each other well from his time as manager of Molde in Norway because Wells was United's scout in the Scandinavia region at the time.
It was Wells who helped secure the signing of Swedish centre-half Victor Lindelof from Benfica in 2017.
He was also one of the first to scout Portuguese sensation Joao Felix at Benfica before he made the £113million move to Atletico Madrid in the summer.
Solskjaer was appointed as caretaker manager at Old Trafford following the sacking of Jose Mourinho last December.
He initially restored United to winning ways but their form slumped following his appointment as their full-time manager in March.
United enjoyed a good summer in the transfer market, bringing in defenders Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka and winger Daniel James.
But an inconsistent start to the season confirmed to Solskjaer that further acquisitions will be necessary to restore United to former glories.
They host Arsenal in the Premier League on Monday night.
