Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has installed a huge TV outside at Manchester United’s training ground to prepare his players for Friday’s clash with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.
Social distancing measures mean that Solskjaer cannot hold his usual video analysis meetings with the squad at Carrington so the massive weather-proof screen was set up over the weekend, taking up a large area down one side of a training pitch.
Solskjaer will use it to go through tactics with his players ahead of Friday’s trip to face Spurs, and for the remainder of the season.
United have also installed a large cabin in the dressing-room area for visiting teams at Old Trafford to guard against the virus spreading.
The new structure can be accessed through the players’ entrance at the stadium with an exit into the tunnel leading to the pitch to minimise the risk of contact with the United squad who have been allocated the home and away dressing-rooms.
In accordance with Premier League protocols, the space accommodates two big changing rooms and showers to allow for social distancing and includes an office area for the opposing manager and his staff.
Players from West Bromwich Albion were able to test out the facilities prior to last Friday’s two friendly matches between the clubs, and the system is set to be kept in place for the rest of the season.
Albion players and staff travelled in two coaches to allow for social distancing and to simulate a matchday situation while United players arrived already wearing their kit.
Any feedback from West Brom will be used by United to ensure everything is in place for their first Premier League home game after lockdown against Sheffield United a week on Wednesday.
United’s first game back is at Tottenham on Friday when Paul Pogba is expected to return on the bench, and Spurs suffered a blow on Monday when defender Japhet Tanganga was ruled out with a stress fracture in his back.
