Solskjaer slams Man Utd forwards for their defending against Partizan

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has laid into his forwards after his side registered a 1-0 win at Partizan Belgrade - telling them they need to press more from the front.

The Red Devils continued their unbeaten start in the Europa League as Anthony Martial's first-half penalty secured a slender victory to give them seven points from three games.

But while United put in another solid display at the back, having not conceded a goal in the competition so far, Solskjaer said he wants more from his front men and said their defensive efforts were 'non existent' after the interval.

'Second half I thought we dug in really well in the box, defended really well in the box. They played well in the second half and made us defend too deep,' he said, speaking to MUTV.

'I'm not happy with the defending at the front. I think that's been one of our strengths this season but I thought that was non-existent in the second half.

'That needs sorting out because we don't want to be a team who is just defending in the box.'

The Norwegian manager is looking for his team to wrap up top spot in qualifying as quickly as possible, but while he admitted he was pleased with the defending to help the side remain unbeaten, he now wants to see a more clinical nature.

United welcome Partizan to Old Trafford next month before an away trip to FC Astana, and finishing with a home clash against AZ Alkmaar.

'We're going to host [Partizan] and go all out to get that win and the last two games we know we're through then,' Solskjaer added.

'It's a great position to be in so far and we haven't conceded a goal, so defensively we have done really well but we know we need to score more goals.'
