Graeme Souness's bizarre swipe at Moise Kean has been widely criticised after he likened the Everton new boy to Emmanuel Adebayor and suggested his off-the-pitch activities are 'not the best'.
In the wake of Everton's 3-2 victory over Wolves, the Sky Sports pundit took aim at Kean, who has not scored for the Toffees since joining from Juventus for £29million - although he did create a goal for Richarlison on Sunday.
Souness thinks it would be illogical for the Italian champions to get rid of a talented youngster without good reason - or without a huge transfer fee - and speculated as to why that might be in his comments on Sky.
'It doesn't make any common sense if you're Juventus, it is as if they're saying "we don't care how good he is going to be, you can take him" which would suggest off the field activities are not the best.
'It's a bit like Emmanuel Adebayor here (Emirates), he was 25, just about to enter his best years and Arsene Wenger sold him to Manchester City.
'Right away you're thinking, "he's not selling him because he's not a good football player, it is because there is something not quite right about him". That was a boy who had all the talent you could ever wish for but didn't do it.'
Souness has been widely panned for his comments on social media with some commenters discrediting his claims as 'lazy'.
One wrote: 'This is an absolute disgrace from Graeme Souness to make completely unfounded comments about Moise Kean. It's actually him that's so bad at his job he's done zero research on the player.'
Others wrote: 'My blood is actually boiling watching this nonsense from Graeme Souness' and 'Classic Graeme Souness punditry here. Doesn't have - or care to find - the information or reasoning behind the Moise Kean move, and instead creates a narrative that supports his completely unreasonable dislike of the player.'
Juve sold Kean with plans to spend big on Ajax centre back Matthijs de Ligt and having handed huge deals to out-of-contract Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey.
