Gareth Southgate has given two of his sidelined World Cup heroes fresh hope they could be in his plans for England's Euro 2020 rematch with Croatia.

'Jose has played him (Dele) as a No 10 and that's his best position,' said Southgate, speaking in Bucharest after England were given a favourable Euro 2020 draw in Group D alongside Croatia, the Czech Republic and the winners of Scotland's play-off section.

'He enjoys having the freedom to run on into the box, that has been very clear for a long time, so it's great he's back on the scoring trail.

'At the moment he is fighting to get into Tottenham's team and pleasing the manager there. If the consequence is they are in form for us, for sure that will be in the players' minds.

'With Kyle, he is right in that mix. Trent (Alexander-Arnold) is obviously playing well. We've got Kieran Trippier, I watched his game (on video) on the morning of the draw, Atletico Madrid against Juventus.

'Reece James is also coming through, pushing in that area of the pitch. So we have competition. But would be foolish to to rule Kyle out.'

Southgate also confirmed that England will be based at St George's Park for the duration of Euro 2020 despite past reservations from players that it can get dull.

England will play all three group games at Wembley, starting against Croatia on June 14, and also a semi-final and final if they get that far.

Former captain Gerrard described St George's as "boring" and said it needed a golf course for something to do outside training.

However Southgate believes the excellent facilities and convenience at a 'home' tournament mean St Georges is ideal. To address the risk of his squad going stir crazy, the England manager will allow family visits during camp before the action begins, and possibly give players time off to go home.

It's understood the Hilton hotel which stands within the grounds of St Georges will be closed for business during the tournament so the players won't face any distractions from other guests.

'We'll stay there (St George's),' said Southgate. 'It's the pre-tournament that needs breaking up. The tournament itself, there's not that long in a continuous stretch at St George's because we'll be going to London.

'We are very conscious that the energy and the environment is critical and whilst the players are used to being at St George's we wouldn't want to be anywhere for for one whole block of time without the opportunity for people to come in or see their families or get time.

'The familiarity (of St George's) Is a good thing because we're secure with the surroundings. We've got incredible facilities that we're not having search for. We don 't have to pair another hotel with a training ground and all those logistics.

'There is a lot more that you can control around the training in particular.'

Southgate was part of England's Euro 96 squad that captured the nation before his penalty miss against Germany at Wembley saw a semi-final exit. But he insists: 'It's not a case of exorcising anything for me, if anything the penalty shoot-out against Colombia at the World Cup was that moment.

'The opportunity is for us to go further than so many teams in the past and our European Championship record has been appalling. This team has a chance to make a difference. They've got opportunity to really excite our country again.

'They (the fans) know what that felt like two years ago from a slightly further distance and this time they get the chance to feel it really close up.'
