Sterling: Aqua's chart-topping hit Barbie Girl is his guilty music pleasure

England hero Raheem Sterling has revealed Aqua's irritatingly catchy hit Barbie Girl is his music playlist guilty pleasure.

Sterling was less 'plastic' and more 'fantastic' as he opened the scoring in England's euphoric 2-0 win over Germany, his third goal in four games at Euro 2020.

And perhaps a cheeky listen to the 1997 hit, which topped the UK charts when Sterling was just three years old, has inspired the Manchester City man's brilliant form.

He made the revelation in a Q&A video for Lucozade Sport, sending presenters Josh Denzel and Michael Timbs into hysterics.

Asked for his guilty pleasure song or genre, Sterling said, 'You never really hear it now' before singing a couple of lines from the song to much hilarity.

The song by the Danish-Norwegian pop group Aqua was hugely popular at the time and topped the charts in the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Holland and many other European countries.

The single went triple platinum in the UK, selling an astonishing 1.84million copies and was performed as an interval act at the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest.

However, the song also proved controversial with Mattel, the manufacturer of the Barbie doll, suing Aqua in 2000 for copyright infringement and also turning Barbie into a sex object with lyrics such as 'blonde bimbo'.

Mattel took their case to the Supreme Court of the United States but didn't succeed and the Court of Appeal ruled the song was a parody and dismissed the defamation case.

Ironically, Mattel later brought out their own version of the song with changed lyrics in an effort to revive sales.

Sterling, meanwhile, has been carrying English hopes at Euro 2020 and has scored three of their four goals so far.

He netted the decisive goals against Croatia and Czech Republic as England topped Group D before opening the scoring against Germany in the last-16 tie at Wembley on Tuesday night. Harry Kane netted England's second.

England head to Rome for their Euro 2020 quarter-final against Ukraine on Saturday night.

Sterling also revealed his love of Brazil legend Ronaldinho growing up in the Q&A chat.

It was Ronaldinho who famously chipped England goalkeeper David Seaman from miles out during the 2002 World Cup quarter-finals.
