Raheem Sterling hasn’t had the best luck with VAR recently.
Sterling had assisted Jesus scored one goal, but that was adjudged to have been in an offside position when latching onto David Silva’s pass, before squaring to Jesus.
That call was tight, to say the least, and many have questioned whether VAR should be delivering such verdicts when there is not “clear and obvious” evidence to rule out a goal.
Sterling said after the match: “With the players we have here there are competitions in training every day. It's a joy to put the ball in the back of the net.”
On the use of VAR: "At the end of the day, as long as the decision is right, that is all that matters."
He also posts his thoughts on Twitter:
Bro why is this VAR ting so mad at meee, still happy with the three goals & moreover with a great victory to start the new season... Let the race begin.
