Sterling set to hold talks with Man City after the Euros to clear up his future

Raheem Sterling is set to discuss his future with Manchester City after the European Championships.

The England star notched his first major tournament goal on Sunday, scoring the winner in the euphoric win over Croatia at Wembley.

Sterling’s future at City is under a degree of uncertainty following a difficult season at the Etihad Stadium in which he lost his place as a first-team regular under Pep Guardiola.

His future at City is set to come to a head ahead of next season.

He has entered the final two years of his deal with the Premier League champions with City eager to clarify his long-term plans.

It is understood the club are open to offering him an extension on his current £300,000-per-week wages - but if a new deal is not achievable City will have no option but to consider letting him leave the club.

This would avoid the prospect of letting a player - who in a normal market is worth £100million - running down his contract and leaving on a free.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona both have long-standing interests in Sterling - but there is doubt over their financial situations post-Covid.

Another potential option would be for City to use Sterling as a potential makeweight in any future transfer incomings.

Indeed, the possibility of City using Sterling in an effort to land Harry Kane from Tottenham has been reported.

But Sportsmail understands Sterling would likely reject any attempts by City to use him as a part-exchange element in any future deal.
