Steven Alzate has delighted in notching his first Premier League goal as the Brighton star's strike was Liverpool's undoing in an unexpected result at Anfield.
The Seagulls travelled to Merseyside in buoyant mood following their deserved victory over Spurs on Sunday, their first league victory at home this top flight campaign.
Graham Potter's side executed their game plan to a tee, limiting the Premier League champions to very few opportunities thanks to their astute pressing and resolute defending.
And Alzate came up with the decisive goal on the 56th minute, steering the ball home after Dan Burn headed across the box and the ball ricocheted between himself and team-mate Leandro Trossard.
The 22-year-old has described Wednesday's result as 'massive' as the Seagulls look to claw themselves away from the relegation scrap below them.
'It was a big result. The last few games we have been getting decent results and I feel like it’s been coming,' Alzate said.
'Luck has not gone our way but it is a massive win today. It is not easy coming here, they are the champions for a reason. We stuck to our game plan and it worked.'
There had been doubt as to whether the ball touched Alzate or Trossard last before finding the net but the midfielder - who has been capped by Colombia - has claimed the strike.
'I am not sure but I will take it, that is my first Premier League goal,' he added.
'We have got to respect our opponent but we pressed from the beginning, we didn’t want to give them too much time on the ball. The Premier League is not easy. Picking up points is big, especially against a team like Liverpool.'
Meanwhile, former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has backed Alzate's claim as the scorer of Brighton's winner.
'There’s a rule that we have as strikers that if there is a dubious goal you celebrate the most. I have done it on many occasions and Alzate has done it here. It’s a fantastic goal,' he said.
'I can’t make up my mind. I think it hits Alzate again so I’ll go with that, and he celebrated the most. It’s his first goal for Brighton in the Premier League. Let’s give it to him.'
