Stoke City have held talks with Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell.
The talented 25-year-old has turned down a new contract at Wigan and is a free agent.
Powell has spent three years at the Latics having joined the club from Manchester United where he struggled to make an impact before serious injuries ended his hopes of breaking into the first-team set up at Old Trafford.
Sheffield Wednesday are also keen but Stoke may offer better terms.
Stoke have signed Millwall striker Lee Gregory and are keen on Barnsley's Wales international goalkeeper Adam Davies, who is also out of contract.
The 26-year-old Barnsley captain and Wales international has been offered a new two year deal to stay at Oakwell.
Barnsley have also shown interest in Exeter City keeper Christy Pym and former Bristol Rovers keeper Adam Smith.
