Sunderland have confirmed the signing of PSV Eindhoven defender Jenson Seelt with the player set to undergo a medical at the club this week.

The 20-year-old centre-back will move to the Black Cats in a deal worth around £1.7million following a round of negotiations between the two clubs.

Seelt moves to Sunderland as the club's fourth summer signing with the Championship outfit hoping to to reach the Premier League after falling short in last season's play-off clash against eventual winners Luton Town.

The 6ft 4in defender will travel to England's north east imminently to sign his contract and complete a medical on Wearside.

Seelt was allowed to move away from the Eredivisie side after rising through the ranks at Eindhoven, but failing to make a first-team appearance at the club.

He made 33 appearances for PSV's reserve team and was placed on the bench nine times for the senior side last season, although didn't get onto the pitch.

His arrival is another signal of Sunderland's intent to bring in young players with potential on cut-price deals in the hope that they will become first-team regulars.

Jobe Bellingham - brother of Jude who recently joined Real Madrid - was followed to Sunderland by Benfica striker Luis Semedo and Nectarios Triantis who joined from Australian side Central Coast Mariners.

Sunderland supporters offered mixed reactions to the news of their new signing's capture on social media with one fan stating: 'Fits the bill perfectly hard to say how he will cope in a much tougher league but I like a lot of what I've seen of him.'

Another added: 'A big lad who likes to get forward and among the goals?!?!? Total football here we come!'
