Suso never got going at Liverpool but he is now in form of his life at Sevilla

Former Liverpool winger Suso is in the form of his life helping his new club Sevilla break a club record.

It was a spectacular Suso strike from the edge of the area that gave Sevilla a win over Valencia on Tuesday and the victory meant they had won six on the bounce away from home for the first time in their history.

Asked if his performance against Valencia was his best this season the 27-year-old said: ‘It may well have been and we are on a good run as a team.’

Suso arrived on Merseyside in 2010 but Rafa Benitez, who had fought for the signature of the Cadiz academy product, had already been replaced by Roy Hodgson when he arrived.

When Brendan Rodgers replaced Hodgson Suso got some game time but he only made 21 performances before he was off to Milan without ever showing Liverpool fans his quality.

Now he is thriving under Julen Lopetegui and very much a part of Luis Enrique’s Spain plans.

Sevilla, meanwhile, have made winning the Europa League last season part of their Christmas message: Never give up.

Lopetegui’s side saw off Manchester United and Inter Milan on route to winning in Cologne, despite looking doomed against both sides.

The Spanish club likens the fighting spirit of Rafa Nadal to their own capacity to resist apparent impending defeat in a short video to their supporters.

Lopetegui has his side in sixth place in La Liga but they play three of the teams above them in their next four games.
