TA: Arsenal set to sign Meslier as free agent after Leeds departure

According to the latest report from The Athletic, Arsenal are close to signing goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who has left Leeds United.

Meslier reportedly left Leeds United at the end of the season as a free agent, after seven seasons and 215 appearances at Elland Road. He still needs to undergo a medical with Arsenal, and his arrival could lead to Tommy Setford leaving on loan.

Setford has made two first-team appearances: once in the 2024-25 League Cup against North Preston, and once as a substitute for Kepa in the FA Cup fourth round against Wigan Athletic in February. The 20-year-old did not concede a goal in either of these matches.

Meslier was Leeds United's undisputed number one goalkeeper for his first five seasons, but his form was inconsistent during the 2024-25 season, leading manager Daniel Farke to drop him from the squad. His last appearance for Leeds United was in March 2025, when Leeds drew 2-2 with Swansea.
