TAA: Messi or Ronaldo? Messi for me; Barca are my favourite besides Liverpool

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has explained his favourite team other than the Reds is Barcelona as he makes choice between Messi & Ronaldo. But the defender has no plans on leaving Anfield and would be happy to stay at the club for the remainder of his career.

The England international is widely regarded as one of the best full-backs in the world.

And Alexander-Arnold has opened up on who he supported growing up outside of Liverpool.

He said in an interview with GQ: “Growing up I was Celtic, but now, because of the [Steven Gerrard] connection, I’m probably neutral up there now.

“But I’d say my favourite other team would be Barca. I feel as though they’ve got kind of the same values and beliefs as Liverpool.”

Alexander-Arnold cannot imagine leaving Liverpool at this stage of his career.

“It’s (leaving) not something I’ve ever really thought about," he added.

“I’ve always loved Liverpool. I’ve always supported them. I’ve always played for them. So, I’ve never had that reason to think about it.

“Yeah, still now, I wouldn’t sit there in my room and daydream about playing somewhere else.

“Right now, I’m a Liverpool player. I love the club more than anything. I love everything about it.

“I love the fans, the people. I love the city. So, no, why would I think about that?”

Alexander-Arnold also made his choice in the Lionel Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo debate with an emphatic answer.

He simply said: “Messi for me.”

Alexander-Arnold has been in superb form this season, netting twice and providing 14 assists in all competitions.
