Tammy Abraham has revealed Jose Mourinho helped convince him to switch Chelsea for Roma and said he shared the Portuguese's burning desire to win trophies.
Abraham has made an impressive start to life in the Italian capital since his £34million move, grabbing two assists in a 3-1 win over Fiorentina on his Serie A debut and helping his side coast to a 3-0 win over Trabzonspor on Thursday to seal their place in the Europa Conference League.
Abraham admitted to being frustrated with his lack of game time at Chelsea last season and said the presence of Mourinho and general manager Tiago Pinto helped him opt for Roma.
'In the last year at Chelsea, I played less than I hoped for. It was important to talk to Mourinho,' Abraham told a press conference on Friday.
'I talked to Mourinho and Tiago Pinto explained the club's ambition to me.'
Abraham joined Chelsea's junior team when Mourinho was in his first spell at Stamford Bridge and was in their under-23 side when the Portuguese was in his second, tumultuous spell with the club but never got to play under him.
But he praised Mourinho's winning pedigree and said they had similar personality traits, while also saying he had always followed Roma and had heard good reports about the club from his Chelsea team-mates Antonio Rudiger and Emerson.
'Mourinho is also a winner and has characteristics I see myself in,' he said.
'But I want to say that I'm not only here for Jose, his presence was important but I have always followed Roma. I had the privilege of sharing the dressing room at Chelsea with Emerson and Rudiger. Tony spoke very well about Roma.'
'I must say that since I arrived, the fans have been extraordinary, as have my teammates and this made me feel at home.
Abraham pledged to try and help Roma win the newly created Conference League among other honours.
'I'm a person who when I arrive in a team, I love to sweat for that shirt and leave my blood,' he added.
'I arrived at Roma not only to score goals, but above all to win trophies and we hope to be able to do so already this year,' he added
'The Conference is a complicated trophy, but we will try.'
