Teddy Sheringham lauds Harry Kane as the 'BEST number nine in the world'

Teddy Sheringham has hailed Harry Kane as the best striker in the world - though feels the Tottenham star will have to leave the club to win trophies.

Kane scored a brace as Tottenham thumped Everton 5-0 to keep the pressure on teams above them in the fight for a top-four finish.

The England captain has been in fine form in recent matches, scoring five goals in their last four Premier League matches.

Sheringham was a guest on Monday Night Football, and had plenty of praise to throw in the direction of the Tottenham striker.

Former Spurs striker Sheringham, said: 'He's the best number nine in the world for me.

'He's been the best for the last four or five years. Keeps proving it year in and year out.'

Kane moved into sixth on the all-time Premier League scoring list with 176 goals - now ahead of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Sheringham believes Kane can catch his former England strike partner Alan Shearer, who netted 260 during his career.

He said: 'Without a doubt (he's going to catch Shearer's record) I mean he's probably got five years left at the top. The way he scores goals every year - without a doubt.'

Despite his praise for Kane, Sheringham said that Kane 'needs to leave' the club if he is to win the game's biggest trophies.

Sheringham said: 'He's got to eye up the situation - the same as what I did really (when Sheringham left Tottenham for Manchester United).

'Short career, you get probably 12-14 years if you're lucky. He's coming into a crossroads in his career of 'what do I do, do I stay at a club which might challenge or do I go somewhere I know they're going to challenge'.

'If I was advising him, you want to play at the top level, you want to play in Champions League finals, you want to be playing for the league title.

'If you want to do that, I think he needs to leave.'

Former Liverpool defender Carragher also had special praise for Kane for both his striking ability as well as his talents as a playmaker.

He even compared the Tottenham striker to Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne for his range of passing.

Carragher said: 'Harry Kane is, in the amount of years I've been working for Sky, there are two or three players that stand out. Which are Kevin De Bruyne, Mo Salah and Harry Kane.

'He hasn't won a trophy and sometimes people ridicule him on that. But for what he has done for Tottenham without them being one of the top teams and what he has done by dropping deeper which I think is a natural step for every striker.

'I don't he has that pace under Pochettino making runs. But very rarely do you see a world class striker become a world class playmaker.

'For me, Harry Kane is as good a passer of the ball as Kevin De Bruyne.

'His actual range of passing and striking of the ball is as good as any. He has been one of the great Premier League players.'

Kane attempted to leave Tottenham last summer and join Manchester City in his pursuit of trophies.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy though refused to let Kane leave the club.

It took Kane some time to get going this season but he has now scored ten Premier League goals this season.
