Ten Hag has signed two of five Man Utd transfer targets with Manuel Ugarte close

Erik ten Hag has set his sights on more signings, with Manchester United having secured their first two recruits – and Manuel Ugarte is next on their agenda.

After signing a two-year contract extension this summer, Dutch coach Ten Hag has already seen nearly £90million spent on his squad. And new shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe is clearly making an impact as he looks to bring proper glory back to Old Trafford.

This summer window is one filled to the brim with change for United, with reports suggesting that no player – bar Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, and Rasmus Hojlund – is safe from being moved on.

Ten Hag's side have already signed replacements for Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial. However, another defensive recruit and a Uruguayan enforcer are among those still on their wishlist as the squad undergoes a revamp.

Joshua Zirkzee

Zirkzee became the first signing of the INEOS era when joining from Serie A side Bologna. £36million was the price tag Ten Hag's side paid for the 23-year-old who featured for the Netherlands during Euro 2024.

Helping guide this side to the Champions League group stages after a fifth-placed finish, Ratcliffe saw it fit to make the player his first recruit since purchasing a 29 per cent stake in the United.

Zirkzee signed a contract until June 2029, with an extra year-long extension possible. The forward was excited to make the move, stating: "I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United. I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning.

"I’m ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies. It is a privilege to join such an iconic club. I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I’ll return ready to make an impact immediately.”

Leny Yoro

With Varane out the exit door, another French defender was recruited to fill his boots as United spared no expense in bringing in 18-year-old Leny Yoro from Lille.

The central defender cost the club £58.7million and signed a deal until June 2029. Named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year last season, Yoro only debuted for Lille two years ago but has progressed rapidly.

Beating Real Madrid to his signature, United signalled that they intend to build on their worst-ever Premier League finish. Yoro was proud to have made the switch, saying: "Signing for a club with such stature and ambition so early in my career is an incredible honour.

"Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project and showed a lot of care for me and my family. I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions with my new teammates. I cannot wait to get started.”

Manuel Ugarte

PSG's £59million-rated Uruguayan holding player Ugarte is reportedly United's No. 1 target after sealing the signings of Zirkzee and Yoro.

Having only joined the French outfit last summer for a hefty £51million, Ugarte has fallen out of favour with head coach Luis Enrique. He was specifically held accountable for his poor performance against Newcastle in the Champions League.

Having already spent heavily in the market, the Daily Mail report that United will have to sell a midfielder should they wish to get Ugarte, as despite personal terms being agreed, a fee has not been. Casemiro and Scotland international Scott McTominay are candidates for sale, with the former theoretically vacating his holding position for Ugarte.

The Brazilian has garnered interest from the Saudi Pro league, and £30m-rated McTominay has been the subject of a £17million bid from Fulham, which was rejected. Ugarte could become United's third signing of the summer, and he is their priority – but it remains to be seen whether the necessary outgoings materialise.

Noussair Mazraoui

In a bid to strengthen the Red Devils' defence, Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui has become a target for Ten Hag, who wishes to reunite with the former Ajax man.

Having only joined German outfit Bayern two years ago, the 26-year old Moroccan could be recruited in order to get the best out of expensive purchase Antony, whom he shared a flank with in the Netherlands.

According to The Guardian, Mazraoui would cost United around £21million, but his arrival would first depend on the sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was put on the chopping block this summer.

Wan-Bissaka signed for United in 2019 for a hefty £45million, but the club would be lucky to recoup even a third of that now. It is reported that around £15million would now be the price demanded for the defender, who has interested West Ham. Bringing in Mazraoui is fully dependent on the Wan-Bissaka sale, but it could see Antony finally prosper on Ten Hag's right wing should both deals progress.

To complicate matters, though, Julen Lopetegui's West Ham are not only keen on a cheap deal for Wan-Bissaka, but the Hammers are in talks with Bayern themselves over Mazraoui.

Matthijs de Ligt

Despite having already signed an expensive centre-half in Yoro, a deal for Dutch star and another Bayern defender, Matthijs de Ligt, is still simmering. Bayern value their asset at £42million, a fee that United, having spent nearly £60million on their 18-year-old Frenchman, ideally don't want to pay.

According to German media outlet Bild, despite getting the green light from De Ligt and agreeing personal terms, the club’s opening £25million plus add-ons offer was declined.

A deal for De Ligt may depend on whether United feel they can afford his fee, as honorary Bayern president Uli Hoeness stated that the defender will likely leave this summer.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Hoeness stated: "It's possible that a defender will leave. I would have no problem if [De Ligt] stays and personally, I would not sell Upamecano." With the player open to a move and his club ready to offload a defender, United could further tighten their backline as De Ligt remains linked with a move.
