Ten Hag to have Zoom calls with players: Advised to give CR7 a role next season

With Erik ten Hag having been confirmed as Manchester United's incoming coach, Cristiano Ronaldo's future has again become the topic of conversation within English football.

The Dutchman will leave his post at Ajax at the end of the current season to move to Old Trafford, where he will attempt to get the Red Devils back on track after a decade of mediocrity and underperforming.

Ahead of his arrival this summer, Ten Hag is set to meet his new players in a series of Zoom meetings, in which he will outline his plans for the club and try to get a better understanding of the individuals awaiting him in Manchester.

One of those could be former Real Madrid and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 22 goals in 35 appearances for the club this season since rejoining from the Italian giants last summer, but the No.7's time at Manchester United might be coming to an end should the club miss out on Champions League qualification, which they are set to do.

But fellow Dutchman and football legend Marco van Basten has offered some advice to Ten Hag ahead of him taking the job at Old Trafford.

"If Ronaldo carries on playing like he did last week [against Norwich] and scores two or three goals in a match on a regular basis, there is no need to take him out of the team," Van Basten told The Rondo Show.

"Ronaldo is a player who does his own thing, but as long as he delivers you have to give him a place in the team.

"Ten Hag will take into account that he cannot ask the same things physically from Cristiano Ronaldo that he will be asking of an 18-year-old. Of course Ronaldo will need to work hard - but I am sure he will work hard because I can see Ten Hag having an influence on him to get him to play how he wants."
