Such were his struggles in his early days at Barcelona, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has admitted that he considered leaving the club.
Playing second fiddle to Claudio Bravo, it had the German mulling over whether or not he had a part to play at the Camp Nou.
"When you come from another country, you have to adapt and for me, the most important thing at first was the language," he told DAZN.
"That is a sign of respect and gratitude. In my first year, Bravo and I managed to deal well with the situation well at the beginning.
"He is a great goalkeeper and won the place at that moment, the coach didn't have to change the goalkeeper due to his good performances.
"I thought about things because what I wanted to do at that time was play and I did think about leaving Barcelona."
The former Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper also reflected on the disappointment of last season's Champions League elimination after letting a 4-1 first leg lead slip against AS Roma.
"It was a very bitter elimination, winning the Champions League is our main objective," he added.
"However, we know that we can't neglect LaLiga Santander and although our advantage is a comfortable one, Real Madrid and Atletico are always dangerous."
