'That's not a yellow card for me' - Souness baffled by Maitland-Niles' red card

Arsenal's hopes of a top four finish were dashed once again as they watched Ainsley Maitland-Niles receive a first half red card against Leicester.

The midfielder received a booking in the eighth minute, and then later in the half got a second yellow for a challenge on fellow England youth international James Maddison.

Graeme Souness, speaking on Sky Sports at half time, was perplexed at the decision, and blamed the current culture of players attempting to get others sent off.

While he agreed the first challenge should have been a yellow card, Souness said 'the second one, no, very unlucky.

'Maddison's not helped his mate there. He slips briefly, it's a lunge, not a lot of contact when we see it from this angle, and that's really harsh on the young man.

'Where's he hurt him there?' Asked Souness as he watched a replay of Maddison going down in apparent pain. 'He goes down holding what? Where's the contact there?

'The referee was right on it,' said Souness. 'What happens today, the players go down with a scream as well. People all around him shouting foul, so the referee's influenced by that. For me, that's not a yellow card.'

Even without the red card, Leicester were dominating the first half, having the lion's share of possession and most of the chances.

Youri Tielemans found a way through before the hour mark to make Arsenal's day worse and give Leicester the lead.
