Manchester United have already sealed their spot in the Europa League knockout stages, with the draw for the last 32 to take place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday 16th December at 1pm.
United's clash with AZ Alkmaar tonight will determine whether they top Group L or come second. United just need a point at Old Trafford to be guaranteed top spot and therefore a seeded position in the draw.
Here's an early look at who they could draw...
If United top the group
If they finish top, United cannot face other seeded teams β who are the 11 other group stage winners plus the four best third-placed teams from the Champions League group stage.
Inter Milan, Ajax, RB Salzburg and Benfica are those best third-placed sides who have joined the Europa League at this stage. So if United top their group, they definitely cannot be drawn against any of those four.
The current Europa League group leaders (before the final round of fixtures) are: Braga, Gladbach, Gent, Espanyol, Rangers, Arsenal, Celtic, Sporting CP, Basel, Copenhagen and Sevilla, as well as United.
The only confirmed unseeded teams are: APOEL, Club Brugge, Leverkusen, Olympiacos and Shakhtar Donetsk.
The other currently second-placed teams who United could face if they top the group are: Malmo, Krasnodar, LASK, Cluj, Eintracht Frankfurt, Porto, Ludogorets, Wolfsburg and Roma.
United couldn't be drawn against AZ Alkmaar (currently second in Group L) after being in the same group as them and they cannot be drawn against a team from the same country, with Wolves currently second in their group.
These are the teams, as it stands, that United could face if they win their group (* indicates Champions League team):
APOEL, Club Brugge*, Leverkusen*, Olympiacos,* Shakhtar Donetsk*, Malmo, Krasnodar, LASK, Cluj, Eintracht Frankfurt, Porto, Ludogorets, Wolfsburg, Roma.
If United come second
The situation explained above would be reversed if United come second, with United unseeded if they lose to Alkmaar tonight and therefore finish second in their group. Again, United can't face another English team in the last 32 so couldn't be drawn versus Arsenal if the Gunners win their group.
So, to confirm, these are the teams United could face, as it stands, if they fail to win the group (* again indicates Champions League team):
Inter Milan*, Ajax*, RB Salzburg*, Benfica*, Braga, Gladbach, Gent, Espanyol, Rangers, Celtic, Sporting CP, Basel, Copenhagen, Sevilla.

So That's How Important The Match Against AZ Alkmaar Is Despite Some Saying That We Shall Play Our Youngsters Since We Are Through And Don't Need To Go All Out To Get The Win. We Must Nail This One To Avoid The 3rd Placed Teams In The π Dropping To The Europa League.
