According to The Sun, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes fell victim to a major theft yesterday. A gang broke into and ransacked his £4 million mansion while he was away playing a match against Como.

The Portuguese midfielder's mansion, located in Cheshire's affluent "Golden Triangle," was invaded by three masked thieves while he was away with the team for a match.

At around 8:30 PM on Wednesday local time, thieves broke into the six-bedroom residence in Nether Alderley, stealing designer jewelry and other valuables.

At the time of the incident, the 32-year-old Bruno Fernandes was in Italy playing in Manchester United's Champions League match against Como. Manchester United lost 1-4.

It is currently unclear whether Bruno's wife Ana Pinho and their two young children were home at the time.

Police said a neighbour reported seeing three unidentified men in the garden of the residence, which backs onto a wooded area.

However, officers arrived at the scene less than 10 minutes after receiving the report, but the suspects had already fled.

A source revealed: "Bruno and Ana are incredibly upset by this. For a footballer away representing his club, having your home invaded like this is the worst nightmare."

"Away-game burglars" specifically target players during matches

This burglary is the latest in a series of "away-game burglar" incidents targeting high-profile individuals. These gangs closely monitor match schedules and specifically target players' homes while they are away for games.

Previous victims include Manchester City star Rúben Dias. In January, a residence he shared with his ex-girlfriend, Love Island presenter Maya Jama, in Alderley Edge, was also burgled.

Other stars who have experienced similar incidents include Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez.

Bruno and his family have lived on this quiet cul-de-sac for nearly four years.

Despite the residence being equipped with advanced security features, including a zoned alarm system, CCTV surveillance, and electric gates, the thieves still breached the perimeter.

It is believed that the thieves approached through the woods behind the house, climbed over the back garden fence, and entered the property. After the burglary, they escaped under cover of darkness.

Notably, the thieves did not take Bruno's luxury cars parked outside, which included a £250,000 Bentley Continental GT and a £180,000 Bentley Bentayga.

Cheshire Police have launched a full investigation into the case. On Thursday morning, police forensic investigation vehicles were seen outside the residence.

A police spokesperson said: "At approximately 8:30 PM on Wednesday, 21 October, police received a report of suspicious activity near an address in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley.

"The caller reported seeing three unidentified men in the rear garden of a neighbouring residence. Officers subsequently attended the scene but found no trace of the suspects.

"However, officers discovered that a burglary had occurred at the address and several items had been stolen."

Detective Inspector David Jarvis of Macclesfield Police's Proactive CID added: "At present, the investigation is in its early stages, and we will make every effort to track down those involved.

"As part of our investigation, we would like to appeal to anyone who was in the local area at the time and may have witnessed anything suspicious."

Police are currently retrieving and reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding residences in hopes of identifying and apprehending the thieves.
