According to The Sun, under-pressure Carrick is seeking a crucial away win against Chelsea. The Man United manager hopes to turn things around after the club's worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

Many believed the former midfielder would be sacked before travelling to Stamford Bridge, following the team's disastrous defeats to Como and AFC Bournemouth last week.

Man United's executives had planned to dismiss Carrick this week, but he was allowed to stay in charge because they could not identify a replacement.

Captain Bruno Fernandes will return to the starting lineup against a struggling Chelsea after an honest conversation with Carrick on Tuesday.

Carrick has been under immense pressure since the consecutive heavy defeats to Como and AFC Bournemouth last week.

Many expected the Man United legend to be sacked before this afternoon's match, but the Red Devils boss has been given extra time.

Carrick will hope his team can take advantage of a Chelsea side who are also reeling after a 2-0 loss to London rivals Tottenham and elimination from the League Cup by Liverpool.
