The day PSV's Erick Gutierrez could have moved to Barcelona

PSV Eindhoven player Erick Gutierrez will be at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night, but he could have joined the Catalan club years ago.

Although the Mexican midfielder was one of the most promising youngsters at the Pachuca academy, the first-team coaching stuff regarded him as slow.

It was then that a coach from the famous La Masia academy approached the Mexican team's director of physical preparation Agustin Lleida to inquire about the player.

"He told me that if we didn't want him here, he would take him to Barcelona," said Lleida.

Pachuca didn't let the player leave the club and, a few years later in August 2018, Gutierrez moved to PSV.

Last Saturday he marked his debut in the Eredivisie with one goal and one assist.

Although the 23-year-old was among Mexico's call-ups for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he didn't manage to make an appearance for his national team.
