Former Celta Vigo player Toni Dovale is working in his family's pharmacy in Galicia during the coronavirus outbreak.
The 29-year-old, who most recently played for Navy FC in Thailand, returned to Spain when the pandemic arrived.
Dovale made over 50 league appearances for Celta between 2009 and 2014 and also spent time at Barcelona's La Masia academy.
"I came to Galicia before Christmas when the season finished [in Thailand] and now, just when the season was going to start again, this happened," Dovale told Radio MARCA.
"Firstly, they put Europeans in quarantine, then they banned us from entering and then the situation has blown up here.
"I'd studied [medicine] a few years ago and I was waiting to do internships [but] I didn't have enough time to do them because I was away and what better moment to lend a hand, to help and contribute in any way I can, like another citizen.
"I'm more about nutmegging people than selling masks but this is an exceptional situation that we haven't seen before and we all have to do our bit.
"What we want is that a solution is found as soon as possible and we can return to our lives which, in my case, is playing football.
"What we want to do is regain our routine and normality. In my case, playing in Thailand o where but now I have to help elsewhere and I feel proud of it and I'm trying to contribute."
